#2 This wallpaper is an example of the French Gothic Revival, no-gothique ou la cathdrale, with its architectural motifs and its sculptures of saints or other religious figures. This particular style was despised by designers such as Augustin W.N. Pugin and Henry Cole because it was too real and fake at the same time. The fake side of the object comes from the dichotomy between the flatness of the wall and the perspective created by the motifs.
