#4 Following yesterday's carpet here is another Gothic-Chinese inspired object, this time an American wallpaper. It introduces Gothic and Chinese-inspired motifs. The architecture is particularly interesting with its Chinese structure and its Gothic elements combined to create a garden folly. Human figures are also present in a pastoral scene, fishing and enjoying their surroundings. This wallpaper illustrastes the history of the Gothic Revival which was brought back by garden designers and in conjunction with other "foreigner" style. In fact Gothic was first understood as non-English style and disregard for this reason, as coming from the Goths, the barbares.
