Chair's Designs, Charles Hindley & Sons, 1841-1884, London, Pen and Black ink, The MET, New York.

#6 These two chairs were designed for the manufacturer Charles Hindley & Sons, which was based in London. The company did not only produced Gothic Revival furniture but a large range of styles, from Louix XIV to Tudor. This two designs are two variations of the Gothic Revival style, the one on the left is an adaptation of Gothic motifs to make the chair looks Gothic. However the design on the right is direct apposition of architectural motifs with its crenels and merlons, and its pointed arches.
